Nottinghamshire were put on the back foot on day two of their the LV= Insurance County Championship Clash against Hampshire, with runs flowing for the visitors after a frantic morning session saw the hosts finish their first innings in arrears.
Seven wickets fell in that opening exchange, with the Green and Golds dismissed for 100 - 66 short of Hampshire - before the away side lost two quick wickets of their own.
The southern outfit rallied after the break, though, and a hundred for Ian Holland and fifties for Liam Dawson and James Fuller helped Hampshire to declare, setting a target of 411.
Hameed and Slater saw off the two remaining overs, adding 11 runs with two days still remaining in the contest - albeit with a fourth day looking set to fall victim to inclement weather
Earlier, the hosts had lost their five remaining wickets within eight overs of resumption, having added 13 runs to their overnight score of 87.
Moores had initially dealt with the early threat of Mohammad Abbas well, crunching a boundary off the third over of the day.
But when he was bowled by Kyle Abbott through the gate for 30, Lyndon James, Brett Hutton and Calvin Harrison followed suit in quick succession for singer figure scores.
Paterson and Toby Pettman briefly halted Hampshire’s progress, but when the latter fell victim to a sublime catch by Ben Brown off an inside edge, Notts had succumbed to a first innings deficit.
Hutton was denied two LBW shouts in his first over for what would have been his fourth successive opening-over scalps, but alas it was Paterson who broke the deadlock with his second ball of the day.
Fletcha Middleton was helpless as the South African’s delivery deflected off his body and onto his stumps, before Nick Gubbins’ off stump was uprooted by the same bowler shortly after to leave Hampshire 44/2, leading by 110.
Upon resumption, runs came more freely for the visitors, with James Vince driving the opening ball of the session handsomely through the covers.
He was undone by Paterson for 15 though, caught low to Calvin Harrison’s right at second slip, before Hutton extended his lead in the race to 50 red-ball wickets in the season when Ben Brown was caught at mid off attempting to drive aerially, a feature of his 31-ball stay.
The arrival of Dawson signaled the onset of calmer weathers with Holland unperturbed by falling wickets, and the pair accumulated through to tea with the latter reaching fifty off 116 balls in a three hour vigil.
They continued in similar vein in the second session to stretch the lead beyond 300, and tot up fifth wicket partnership worth 150, before Dawson edged Pettman to Harrison in the cordon for 82 attempting to heave straight.
Holland, though, brought up his fourth First-Class hundred off 224 balls with Fuller for company.
The arrival of the new ball, with the lead at 368 and 10 overs in the day remaining, did little to stem the flow with Fuller reaching a 41-ball fifty before a declaration with Holland unbeaten on 138.
