The latest addition to Nottinghamshire’s ranks is Pakistan international Mohammad Ali, a seamer who has represented his country in all three formats.
The 33-year-old has enjoyed a productive career to date, and as such, this is an alternative look at his years in the game, told through his statistics.
323 career wickets
As an all-format professional, Ali has experienced success across the board, with an impressive haul of wickets across the sport.
The bulk of his wickets - 213 of them - have been taken in the first-class arena, though his best average with the ball - a miserly 18.04 - stands in T20 matches.
A best return of 6-52
A Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture in Multan in November 2021 proved the setting for one of Ali’s standout moments as a professional.
Playing for Central Punjab against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali ripped through the visitors’ line-up to claim a six-wicket haul, teeing up a 58-run first-innings lead for his side.
Pakistan’s 249th Test cricketer
Perhaps the proudest moment of Ali’s career, though, was making his international bow for Pakistan, which he did in a December 2022 Test against England in Rawalpindi.
By doing so, he became the 249th man to appear for his nation in the format since Pakistan played their maiden Test in 1952, with his first wicket being that of Ollie Pope.
19 PSL wickets in 2024
With such an impressive average, wickets have never been in short supply in T20 cricket for Ali, and his 2024 Pakistan Super League campaign was the standout.
Playing for eventual runners-up Multan Sultans, he finished second only to teammate Usama Mir in the competition’s overall wicket-taking charts, with 19 scalps at just 18.63 apiece.
One trophy won with Paul Franks
Much is known of Ali’s previous history with Paul Franks, and pleasingly, the two have already enjoyed List A success when working together.
In the 2022-23 Pakistani season, with Franks coaching Ali at Central Punjab, the Pakistan Cup was secured for the first time thanks to a 50-run win over Balochistan in the final.
