Freddie McCann’s stylish century ensured Nottinghamshire claimed two batting bonus points as they finished day two of their Vitality County Championship Division One clash against Warwickshire on 324/6.

The 19-year-old batter looked composed throughout his knock of 130 as he struck 19 boundaries on the way to a second consecutive Trent Bridge ton.

Kyle Verreynne hit 76 not out and Jack Haynes also contributed with 47, as part of a 127-run fourth-wicket partnership with McCann, which helped the hosts kick on after finding themselves 55/3 during the afternoon session.

It was the second day in a row on which no cricket was played before lunch due to overnight rain.

Starting the day at 1pm on 33/2, Joe Clarke picked up a boundary with well-timed drive which raced through the covers off Michael Booth.

Booth struck back with the following ball however, a wicked swinging delivery that bowled Clarke for 12.

McCann, having batted through a tricky period yesterday evening, looked to capitalise through the offside as drove Olly Hannon-Dalby for boundaries through point and cover on the way to a fifty partnership between himself and Haynes.

The number three batter brought up his half century with a four through backward point after he opened the face to Hannon-Dalby.

Haynes looked busy at the crease, hitting six boundaries which included swatting Danny Briggs through square leg, as he reached 47 off 55 deliveries.

It took a sharp lowdown catch at first slip by Will Rhodes off the bowling of Briggs to remove him, leaving the Green and Golds 182/4.

Meanwhile, McCann looked unphased as he produced a lovely drive through mid-on off Ed Barnard for four and brought up his second First-Class hundred in style with a reverse sweep off Briggs as his teammates stood and applauded him from the Pavilion balcony.

It took a fine yorker from Craig Milne to finally remove him after he and Verreynne had put on 98.

The South Africa international was positive at the crease and had earlier ensured Nottinghamshire’s first batting bonus point when he whipped Briggs for four through the legside.

Verreynne brought up his fifty with a powerful cover drive shortly after Lyndon James was caught for two.

Rob Lord’s extra-cover boundary secured a second batting bonus point meaning that if Nottinghamshire do not lose the game, they will stay in Division One.

Bad light brought an end to play for the second day running shortly before 6pm.
