Fateh Singh starred with bat and ball as Nottinghamshire’s under 18s cruised to a five-wicket victory over Yorkshire at Lady Bay.
Singh took 5/27 as the visitors limped to 200 all out with one ball remaining in their 50-over innings, before smashing a six to win the contest, finishing unbeaten on 19.
After Yorkshire’s openers made a composed start to their innings, it was Singh who checked their momentum, first removing Yash Vagadia (35), before having skipper William Luxton caught behind for 33.
And it was off Singh’s bowling that Harry Allinson (2) became the victim of an unfortunate run-out, stranded mid-pitch after Matthew Weston slipped at the non-striker’s end.
Weston himself then holed out off Drew Owen for 18, as Notts continued to secure scalps at regular intervals.
Right-armer Abneer Irfan had Dan Ford caught in the on-side for 18, before Singh trapped Alex Kaye for 4.
And Singh completed his five-fer by inducing errant shots from Harry Sullivan (14) and Noah Priestly (23).
After Sam Wisniewski fell victim to the second run-out of the innings, Yorkshire’s resistance was ended when Ben Cliff edged Sam King behind for 22.
In reply, Nottinghamshire lost openers Travis Holland (14) and Lucas Stentiford (13) inside the opening ten overs, but Ben Wilcox made a defining contribution with the bat in hitting 71 at number three.
The right-hander was in fluent and innovative form, hitting nine fours and a six during his 91-ball stay at the crease.
Initially supported by King (11), Wilcox then compiled an 84-run stand with Ben Martindale, whose unbeaten half-century at a little over a run a ball ensured Notts stayed ahead of the run-rate.
After Wilcox and Qundeel Haider (9) departed, it was left to Martindale and Singh to finish the job.
And the half-centurion ultimately played a supporting role in the closing overs, reaching 53* as Singh smashed a six in each of the final two overs to close out victory.
