Nottinghamshire Head Coach Peter Moores has talked of his delight with the performances of his players after securing a crushing victory over Essex in the latest round of the LV= Insurance County Championship.

Moores said he was “absolutely over the moon” following the conclusion of the match, in which the Green and Golds earned back-to-back wins with a victory margin of an innings and 30 runs.

“Today had the potential to be a tough day,” reflected an elated Moores, ”but we opened it up quickly. With the quality of Essex too, this is a fantastic result.”

The Head Coach was also keen to single out the showing of a homegrown Academy graduate: “Credit to Lyndon James, who just did what he can do,” Moores said. “He gets big players out!”

“I thought Dane Paterson bowled a beautiful spell too. The whole squad, including the Second XI, has had a really good couple of weeks, and I’m really chuffed about that from a coaching perspective.”

Even as Moores was keen to celebrate, he was however also at pains to stress calm after what has been a particularly impressive fortnight for the Green and Golds.

“It’s taken us a lot of hard work to get to this point,” he said, “but we won’t get ahead of ourselves. We’re clear about where we want to get to, but there’s a lot more still to do.”

“The lads have some days off now, which is good timing to allow them to recharge, and we’ll then be able to come back for what will be a big game against Worcestershire.”
