Ben Compton’s century, part of an unbroken 196-run second-wicket stand with Joey Evison, helped Nottinghamshire’s Second Eleven fight back against Lancashire at Lady Bay.
The Seconds finished the day on 219-1 in their second innings, still trailing by 112 runs.
Compton reached three figures late in the evening session, closing on 102 not out, whilst Evison proved the perfect foil at the other end, reaching the end of the day unbeaten on 76.
Resuming the third day on 105-5, in response to Lancashire’s 490-7 declared, Dane Schadendorf and Matt Carter continued their stout resistance.
However, when both fell in quick succession, Carter for an innings-high 58 and Schadendorf for 35, Nottinghamshire were ultimately dismissed for 159, a lead of 331 for the visitors.
Following on, Seb Menzhausen and Compton emerged from the dressing rooms and navigated a tricky first ten overs, before the former fell LBW to Jack Blatherwick for three.
Evison came out to join Compton, the pair embarking on their second-wicket stand that would span the rest of the third day.
The batsmen made the most of a tiring Lancashire attack, with the visitors having spent the best part of the past two days in the field.
Compton hit eight boundaries in five hours at the crease, with Evison notching seven of his own in the 260 minutes to date he has spent in the middle.
Both will be hoping to extend their innings and push Nottinghamshire towards a draw on the final day.
