Nottinghamshire's Second XI were made to toil in the first game of the Championship season as Lancashire made 309/2 at the end of the day’s play.

Skipper Peter Trego lost the toss and was asked to field in batting-friendly conditions.

Lancashire top order batsmen Taylor Cornall and George Lavelle hunkered down to spend the best part of a day at the crease, with Lavele making his way to an unbeaten 130.

The hosts had Owais Shah caught by Toby Pettman off the bowling of Tom Barber for 33 as Notts made the first breakthrough in the 20th over.

But it wasn’t until the 79th over that Matt Carter took the Green and Golds' second wicket, snaring the wicket of Cornall for 112.

Carter ended the day as his side's most potent and most economical bowler, going at little over two an over to finish the day with figures of 1-43.

Trego's new-ball spell was also notable for its miserliness, while teenage Academy spinner Fateh Singh maintained an economy rate of 2.58 across his 12 overs.
