The Blaze secured their second win in succession to continue their one hundred percent record in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, but were taken to the death by Northern Diamonds in a thriller at Trent Bridge.
The hosts defended 136, winning by four runs with a six needed off the final ball for the visitors to steal victory.
Scotland skipper Kathryn Bryce top-scored with 31 for the home side with England Under-19 captain Josie Groves making 24 not out, before Blaze skipper Kirstie Gordon led a superb effort in the field by taking 3/20.
Off-spinner Erin Burns, a 35-year-old franchise veteran in her first season with Diamonds, took wickets in each of her four overs, including two in the powerplay and two with her last two deliveries as The Blaze were bowled out in exactly 20 overs. Leg spinner Katie Levick (3-22) also had a good night with the ball.
But despite Lauren Winfield-Hill (38) and Hollie Armitage (28) seeming to put them on track for a victory, Burns also chipping in with 22, the Diamonds could not overhaul the 2023 runners-up.
At the start of the evening, visiting skipper Armitage electing to give The Blaze first use of a pristine looking Trent Bridge surface.
After reverse sweeping the second ball of the contest for four, Marie Kelly fell at the hands of Erin Burns the very next ball.
Teresa Graves (13) and Kathryn Bryce capitalised on the early powerplay fielding restrictions, lifting the score to 38 after six overs.
Just as Bryce looked to be clicking through the gears Levick took the first of three wickets that would derail The Blaze’s hopes of a score north of 150.
After Burns had accounted for Sarah Bryce (18), Levick added the scalps of Nadine de Klerk and Ella Claridge to reduce the hosts to 84/6.
Up stepped teenager Groves, who bludgeoned the solitary six of the innings over deep midwicket’s head, ending with a valuable 24 not out from 17 deliveries.
Burns, meanwhile, returned for the final over to complete her maiden five-wicket T20 haul, Lucy Higham and Grace Ballinger falling in consecutive deliveries as The Blaze were dismissed for 136 from the final delivery.
Leading her side out to defend under the Trent Bridge lights, Gordon set the tone with an opening over wicket of Leah Dobson.
Gordon’s left-arm spin would also account for the dangerous Hollie Armitage, trapped in front for 28, the Yorkshire skipper making the trip to Trent Bridge from the Incora County Ground after being called into the England squad.
At 65 for two at halfway, Diamonds had their noses in front but the next five overs saw The Blaze dry up the runs and push the required rate up to nine-an-over, the pressure perhaps accounting for two wickets in a single Kathryn Bryce over as the balance suddenly tilted the way of the home side.
Winfield-Hill was bowled stepping down the pitch to the medium-pacer before Burns was run out going for a second to Groves at deep square. Beth Heath was well caught at long-on off De Klerk, Stere Kallis run out after a mix-up with Emma Marlow, who was then bowled by Gordon.
Diamonds needed an unlikely 19 from the final over by Kathryn Bryce and though Katherine Fraser launched a six over wide midwicket they fell five short.
