Joe Clarke spearheaded his side’s rearguard efforts as Notts closed out a draw on the fourth day against Lancashire at Southport.
The Green and Golds had been asked to follow-on on day three, trailing by 227, but top order batter Clarke made 115 in 193 deliveries, Will Young 18 off 122, and Lyndon James 47 from 122 to steer their side to a stalemate.
22 overs were lost to rain in the midst of Clarke and James’ 136-run partnership, while Jack Haynes also made 21 from 41 to rebuff the hosts.
Clarke and Young combined in the morning to add seven runs to the overnight score of 84/2, in a third-wicket partnership spanning nearly 19 overs.
The Red Rose’s sting had been removed from their tail by the pair before the Kiwi was caught behind off James Anderson, and Jack Haynes continued to wrestle Notts into the contest before he top edged the spin of Chris Green.
Notts were only 36 behind when the rain arrived at 14:25 and enforced a stoppage of over 90 minutes, including the tea interval.
That meant the visitors were left to face 33 overs in the final session, a task managed in assured fashion with 227 reached - and therefore the deficit wiped - in the 95th over.
They played within increasing freedom therefrom, Clarke reaching his century off 185 balls with a square cut off Luke Wells before the sides shook hands with Notts leading by 43.
