Nottinghamshire have secured the services of South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne for three of their four remaining Vitality County Championship fixtures.
Fresh from South Africa’s victorious two-match Test series in the West Indies - in which he scored a half-century in the Proteas’ 40-run win in Providence - the 27-year-old will be available for selection ahead of the visit of Surrey to Trent Bridge this Thursday.
Verreynne, who has 18 Test caps and a Test hundred for his country, has amassed nine centuries and 32 fifties from 124 First-Class innings, boasting a batting average of 48.91.
“It’s great to add someone of Kyle’s experience and quality with the bat to our squad at what is a crucial point in the County Championship season,” said Head Coach Peter Moores.
“His record speaks for itself, and with him arriving off the back of a Test series, we'll benefit from a player who is match ready in many aspects. We’re looking forward to getting him settled in before a big fixture against Surrey, for which we know we’ll need to be at our very best.”
Verreynne’s career-best score of 216* came in March 2021 for Cobras, with his Test high score of 136* coming a year later against New Zealand to seal a comprehensive victory in Christchurch.
The new arrival will also eventually link-up with Western Province and South Africa team-mate Dane Paterson, who will return from paternity leave for Notts’ visit to Essex, with both having been part of the Proteas Test squad for their most recent tour of West Indies.
“I'm sure Kyle will welcome having that familiar face in the dressing room when Dane returns,” Moores added.
“Of course, we're delighted to hear Dane’s news, and we're looking forward to welcoming him back to the squad ahead of the Essex game to bolster our bowling options.”
