All-rounder Sammy King’s fine display with the bat ensured that Nottinghamshire’s Second XI surpassed Zimbabwe A’s first innings score on the second of their three-day friendly at Lady Bay.
King clinched his hundred in just 114 balls after the tourists found two early wickets of Ben Martindale and Tom Loten, and by the time King was caught by a sub fielder he had clubbed 127 runs - including 21 boundaries - and Notts were 274/5.
Dane Schadendorf (49) and Josh Beer (45) both came close to half-tons, while spinners Fateh Singh (34) and Farhan Ahmed (26*) saw Notts through to 346 all-out, surpassing Zimbabwe’s first score of 301.
The visitors then had 17 overs of the evening session to commence their second innings on the front foot; Farhan Ahmed got Notts’ sole wicket of the day as Marumani was caught by Toby Pettman, but Zimbabwe held on for the remainder of the evening and posted 61/1 at the close, leading their hosts by 16 ahead of the final day.
