A piece of history has been presented to the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club by Ashfield District Council, in honour of the centenary of the legendary Harold Larwood MBE's First-Class debut for Notts.

The historic certificate, presented to Nottinghamshire's Vice Chair Richard Stevenson by Councillors Arnie Hankin, Chris Huskinson and Tom Hollis, was originally gifted to Larwood following his first tour with England to Australia in 1928-1929, when he took 18 wickets on the way to a landmark 4-1 Ashes win for the Three Lions.

Regarded as one of England's greatest ever bowlers, the right-arm seamer took 1,247 First-Class wickets for Nottinghamshire - 92 for his country - and was honoured with an MBE by Queen Elizabeth II in 1993 for his services to cricket.

Marking the centenary of Larwood's First-Class debut - made against Northamptonshire at Trent Bridge on 20 August 1924 - the treasured item has been loaned to the club by Ashfield District Council, and will be on display in the Trent Bridge Pavilion from Thursday 29 August, when the Green and Golds welcome Surrey in the Vitality County Championship.

Vice Chair Richard Stevenson, who accepted the presentation of the certificate at Trent Bridge, said: “Harold Larwood is one of the greatest cricketers ever to play for Notts and for England, and I’m sure our members will be really interested to see this impressive tribute to his first successful Ashes tour.”
