The Outlaws were knocked out of the Vitality Blast on Friday night by Somerset, who claimed a five-wicket victory.

Boosted by the return of Luke Fletcher, Colin Munro and Samit Patel who all overcame late fitness tests to feature in the Finals Day shootout, the Outlaws made four changes to the team which beat Leicestershire last Sunday.

It was the latter who forged a 69-run partnership with Matthew Montgomery to steady the ship during the first innings, and lead the Outlaws to 157 on a seemingly uncharacteristically low scoring pitch.

Earlier, Alex Hales and Colin Munro found themselves on the wrong end of Craig Overton’s firey start to his spell, before Joe Clarke was caught off the bowling of Matt Henry to leave Notts 19/3 after the fourth over.

The returning Patel and Montgomery, however, began to stage a fightback, taking Notts to 37/3 at the end of the powerplay after enjoying a productive sixth over.

The duo continued to accumulate breezily, before Patel fell in the thirteenth over when he was bowled on the leg side by the Somerset captain Lewis Gregory.

Montgomery went on to claim his half century before falling from the very next ball for a composed 51.

Steven Mullaney and Imad Wasim added another 52 runs, Wasim striking a six and 2 fours in his entertaining cameo to see out the innings, leaving a chase of 158 for the hosts to seeing them through to finals day next weekend.

And the hosts were soon two down, as Somerset opener Tom Banton was caught behind off the first ball of the second over, a decision successfully reviewed by Steven Mullaney.

And it was nine for two when Wasim clean bowled Tom Kohler-Cadmore for a duck and completed a double wicket maiden over.

Tom Abell hit three sweetly-struck fours to take Somerset to 44 for two by the end of the powerplay, but the dangerous Will Smeed would soon depart.

Lightning fielding from Alex Hales resulted Smeed being run out, and Harrison would give Notts hope with two more wickets, but it was ultimately Gregory who guided Somerset to victory with a 32-ball fifty.
