Hampshire were dismissed for 166 as 15 wickets fell on the opening day of their trip to Trent Bridge to face Nottinghamshire.
There were three scalps apiece for Lyndon James, Dane Paterson and Brett Hutton, with Toby Pettman securing a debut wicket, before Notts reduced the deficit to 79, for the loss of five wickets, by stumps.
