Thrillseekers will have the opportunity to traverse Trent Bridge via zipwire this summer as the Trent Bridge Community Trust's popular fundraising event returns after a six-year absence.

The #Donate4Dementia zipwire event on Sunday 16 July will allow those taking part to see Nottinghamshire’s historic home from a new perspective, crossing the field at a height of 25m and at speeds of up to 40mph. 

Money raised by participants in the 190m thrill-ride will support the Trust's increasingly-popular Forget Me Notts initiative for individuals with dementia and their carers, with the scheme currently under threat due to funding challenges.

Registration for the event costs £50, with further fundraising support provided to help individuals reach a minimum fundraising target of a further £100.

Additional rewards are available for those who raise additional funds:

  • By raising £150 on top of the registration fee, individuals will become a silver supporter, and receive a free Notts cap.
  • By raising £250 on top of the registration fee, individuals will become a gold supporter, and be entered into a prize draw to win two hospitality tickets to Trent Bridge’s One Day International between England and Ireland on Saturday 23 September, in addition to receiving a free Notts cap.

"Whether you've been to Trent Bridge once or a thousand times, you'll rarely have had the chance to see it from such a unique, elevated position at the heart of the venue - with the adrenaline rush of a high-speed zipwire run thrown in," said the Trust's Community Projects Manager Mark Clifford. 

"Most importantly, funds raised by those who are intrepid enough to take part will provide invaluable support to an initiative which is making a real difference to the lives of hundreds of people in Nottinghamshire each week."

Forget Me Notts provides mentally and physically stimulating activities for those with dementia, whilst also facilitating access to expert advice and a peer support network for carers.

The programme, which previously won the Health and Wellbeing Award at the Celebrating Rushcliffe Awards, and has been named Community Group of the Year by Active Notts, operates free-to-attend cafe sessions at Trent Bridge, and sports sessions at Rushcliffe Arena and Edwalton Golf Club.

"We're often told by those who join us that Forget Me Notts is the highlight of their week - it's something to look forward to for those with dementia, and a much-needed moment of respite for those who care for them," continued Clifford.

"It's a testament to the community we've been able to build that people often continue to attend each week even after their loved ones have sadly passed away.

"With our most recent funding cycle now coming to a close, we are in urgent need of further funding to allow us to continue operating Forget Me Notts at its current level.

"Over the past six years, the programme has developed to the point where it now offers comprehensive support for all those affected in any way by this terrible condition. 

"It would be heartbreaking to be forced to scale back our support of people in our county who so dearly need our help."

Over £12,000 was raised during the most recent zipwire event in 2017, which followed a similarly successful staging of the challenge the previous summer.
