Dan Christian, a two-time Vitality Blast winning captain with Notts Outlaws, has announced his retirement from cricket.

The Australian all-rounder revealed that the ongoing Big Bash League will bring down the curtain on a glittering career spanning over 17 years.

“I have achieved things and made some memories that I could only have dreamt of as a kid,” said the 39-year-old.

“What I didn’t expect to learn as a kid though, is how many people I was going to come into contact with that have had an influence on my career and ended up becoming lifelong friends.

“I’m looking forward to catching up with you all and not having the excuse: ‘Sorry, I’ve got cricket’.”

Christian skippered the Outlaws in six out of seven Vitality Blast seasons from 2016 to 2022, leading them to group stage qualification on five occasions, all but one of which resulted in Finals Day appearances.

In 2017, he masterminded victories over Hampshire and Birmingham Bears as the Green and Golds lifted the Finals Day silverware for the first time.

Three years later, the 43-time Australian international took the Player of the Match honours in the semi-final and final as the Outlaws triumphed against Lancashire and Surrey behind closed doors.

In 87 T20 matches for Notts, Christian scored 1,715 runs at an average of 33.62 and took 48 wickets. His 37-ball century against Northamptonshire in 2018 remains the fastest for the Outlaws in the format.

In T20 cricket in all, the ultra-competitive all-rounder has 405 appearances, 5,809 runs and 280 wickets to his name, with up to four further appearances with for Sydney Sixers still to come. He has won domestic T20 trophies around the world on nine occasions since 2010.

An accomplished all-format cricketer until his final First-Class appearance in 2018, Christian played 83 red-ball games, scoring five hundreds, collecting three five-wicket hauls , averaging 30.50 and 34.84 with bat and ball respectively and winning the Sheffield Shield on three consecutive occasions in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

His 120 List A appearances brought 2,844 runs at 32.68, 107 wickets at 33.50 and 20 One-Day International appearances for Australia.

Congratulations to Dan on a simply stunning career from everyone at Trent Bridge.
