Matthew Carter hailed the role of the Trent Bridge crowd in carrying Trent Rockets to an emphatic victory over Birmingham Phoenix.
Match Hero Carter took 2/15 as Phoenix were restricted to 116/9 from their 100 balls – some 46 runs in arrears of Rockets’ 162/6.
The margin of victory significantly boosted the hosts’ net run rate, catapulting them to second in the table.
And Carter was quick to credit the unstinting support of the Trent Bridge faithful – a record crowd for The Hundred at the venue of 15,551.
“The thing that always keeps us going here is the Trent Bridge crowd,” he said.
“We play not only for ourselves but to put on a show for the crowd – to be able to do that again here, I’m sure everyone’s buzzing about it.
“We’re used to getting big crowds in for the Blast, but to get the extra couple of thousand in for today and to see how many kids and young ones are enjoying it, it’s really great.
“The excitement of coming here and playing, it makes every day worth it.”
The result saw the Rockets’ men bounce back from the disappointment of defeat to Manchester Originals on Thursday – a comeback which Carter feels is testament to the mentality of the squad.
“The fight we have shown every game has been great,” he said.
“We've had some big scores against us, we had a tricky day with the bat in our first game, but the fight that everyone has shown has been brilliant, and shows the character of the group.”
“If we can win on Monday, alongside the size of the victory today and the boost it’s given to the run rate, hopefully we’re in with a chance.”
