From opening the batting to taking the new ball, Tom Loten is keen to show the Nottinghamshire faithful what he is capable of over the next two seasons.

Having signed a two-year deal, the 23-year-old will be amongst the Green and Golds’ squad which returns to training at the beginning of November.

And, having been permitted a first look into life as an Outlaw in two September Second XI outings which yielded eight wickets with the ball and a half-century with the bat, Loten is champing at the bit to put in the hard yards required to progress.

“I consider myself to be a grafter. I’ll run in all day, hopefully take wickets and put some runs on the board, that’s what my aim is,” he said.

“When I made my Seconds debut, what struck me was what a welcoming environment it is.

“That made it a lot easier to settle in and I was pleased with how I went over those two fixtures."

The off season allows new bonds to be formed and fresh plans to be drawn up.

For an incoming player, that chance to form relationships can be crucial.

“Getting to know the lads through the winter will be important,” said Loten.

“There are some experienced bowlers here like (Stuart) Broad and (Luke) Fletcher, and it will be great to work alongside them and try and learn some new skills.

“My main aim will be doing everything I can to hit the ground running next season.”

Alongside a seasoned crop of seamers, the knowledge and experience of Notts' coaching setup promises to be of equal importance to Loten.

Kevin Shine’s assortment of bowling props are a staple of indoor training inside atTrent Bridge, and the upcoming winter months will be a first chance for the young all-rounder to reap their rewards.

“He is a really experienced bowling coach,” said Loten of Shine.

“The people he has worked with, and their records, speak for themselves.

“I am looking forward to working with him after a small taste of it in the final month of the season.

“From the chats I’ve already had with him, it looks like he has some high-tech ways of improving bowlers.”
