Nottinghamshire all-rounder Ben Martindale has signed a one-year contract to keep him at Trent Bridge until the end of the 2023 season. 

The 19-year-old signed his first professional deal with Notts earlier this year having graduated from the club's Academy, before making his List A debut in the Royal London Cup against Gloucestershire.

In the Second XI Championship, the top-order batter amassed 588 runs in 19 innings, his top score of 93 coming in the red-ball contest against Derbyshire in May. 

“To have made my professional debut this year was a special moment, and one that I hope I can replicate in 2023 by working hard over the winter and producing performances when the season comes around again,” said Martindale. 

“I’ve had to bide my time getting those opportunities, and that made me being in and around the Royal London Cup squad this summer all the more exciting. 

“I tried to learn as much as I could in that environment, and to also make the most of chances in the Seconds, to prove to myself that I could do it at professional level.

“I definitely grew over the course of the year, and I’m looking forward to seeing where my game can get to over the next 12 months.”

At the annual End of Season Awards Dinner in September, Martindale was awarded the Charles Vernon Price Memorial Plate to recognise his progression as the most improved Academy player. 

He follows the likes of Liam Patterson-White and Fateh Singh in scooping the prize. 

“Credit to Ben as he’s earned his contract through some outstanding performances in the Second Eleven,” said Head Coach Peter Moores.

“His best innings have come against the stronger attacks, containing several regular first team bowlers, showing he already has the ability to step up to a higher level in the game.

“Ben should take real confidence from this and the challenge now will be to make those performances more consistent, which will be a focus of his work this winter.

“His bowling should also not to be underestimated and I know Kevin Shine is looking forward to the opportunity to spend some meaningful time with him over the coming months.

“Credit to Matt Wood and his coaches for producing another exciting cricketer from our Academy and we’re all looking forward to seeing how far he can progress in the coming years.”

Trent Bridge will host three international matches next summer, with the sole Test Match of the Women’s Ashes taking place at Nottinghamshire’s historic home, before England’s men face New Zealand and Ireland in IT20 and ODI contests respectively.
