Nottinghamshire’s Ben Duckett has signed a new three-year contract at Trent Bridge.

The left-hander scored 1,408 runs across First-Class and T20 cricket in 2022, averaging 72 and 36 in red- and white-ball cricket respectively for the Green and Golds and being named Player of the Year for the second time in three seasons.

Duckett's all-format tally for Nottinghamshire now stands at 4,691 since joining from Northamptonshire midway through the 2018 season.

He was called up to the England Lions squad for 50 over and four-day fixtures against South Africa last summer and, more latterly, has played a starring role in his country's senior side's IT20 and Test series victories in Pakistan.

“The last two years have been very encouraging for us as a red ball side, and to be part of that progression is really pleasing,” Duckett said.

“I feel like my game is in a good place, which I suppose is largely the result of so much hard work over the last three or four years working on my technique, and leaning on the support of coaches at Notts.

“I have tried to be as positive as possible, and that approach has been working well for me during the past couple of years. My hunger is there to make big runs, too, not just settle for 70s, 80s, or even hundreds - I really want to take games by the scruff of the neck and put the team in a dominant position.

“The same is true with the white ball, where I have tried to just play to my own strengths. There is far less worrying about the opposition, and much more trusting my ability.

“The role Notts has played in that has been massive; I've had the backing to go out and be positive, not fear getting out, and embrace the responsiblilty I've had at the top of the order."

On the international scene, Duckett scored 233 runs at 46.60 in seven IT20 games against Pakistan in the autumn, before a first Test ton and consecutive fifties against the same opposition in December.

His appearances for the Three Lions followed an average of 72.28 in the County Championship, and a strike rate of 160.32 in the Vitality Blast during 2022.

“Ben has improved every year since joining us and he is now getting the rewards for all the hard work he has put in over that time,” said Nottinghamshire Head Coach Peter Moores.

“It was during the winter of 2019/20 that he totally committed to improving his own game and hasn’t looked back since.

“He has become a key player for us in all formats, reflected in the awards he was won over the last couple of seasons.

“He has been a pleasure to work with and always hungry to keep moving his game forward. It’s great news for both him and the club that he has committed for a further three years.

“I’m looking forward to watching him continue to move his game forward, and making the match winning contributions we’ve enjoyed over the last few seasons.”
