Steven Mullaney has signed a new two-year contract with Notts, keeping him at Trent Bridge until the conclusion of the 2024 season.
The 36-year old joined the Green and Golds in 2010 and assumed the captaincy ahead of the 2018 summer, taking over from Chris Read.
To date, he has made 429 appearances across all-formats, chalking up 12,830 runs and 334 wickets for the Green and Golds.
In 2022, Mullaney guided his adopted county to the Division Two title, his first red-ball silverware as leader, whilst amassing 993 runs at 52.26, including three centuries and four fifties.
His opening game 192 against Sussex was his career best, whilst he bludgeoned a 55-ball ton at Lord’s versus Middlesex.
“I’ve made no secret of how proud I am to represent and lead this county, it has been a massive part of my life and I want to contribute to further success for the club for as long as I can,” Mullaney said.
“There have been some challenging periods for us since I joined, but they have made the wins along the way, and trophies at the end, all the sweeter.
“The group that is being assembled now, there is no reason why we can’t be hugely ambitious and strive to be at the very top in all formats moving forwards; I genuinely think we have that talent within our squad.
“We have got a good blend of youth and experience, some lads at the very top of their game, and it is an honour to take to the field with them.
“But with the size of Notts, we can’t settle with just having the potential, we need to push for titles, and I am hopeful that we can do that over the next two years.”
Mullaney was part of the sides that won the County Championship in 2010 and the Yorkshire Bank 40 in 2013, whilst playing a vital hand in ensuring both the Royal London Cup and Vitality Blast were secured by the Outlaws in 2017.
In 2020, Mullaney won his second T20 title before his 2022 Division Two triumph took his tally of trophies won with Notts to six.
“Steve enjoyed a fine season last year leading the Championship team back to Division One; he produced several matchwinning performances with both bat and ball and his leadership continues to develop year on year,” Peter Moores said.
“He has played a key role in getting the best out of this group of players, and his skills will be tested again next season with the challenges Division One will bring.
“I know this is something he will relish along with the rest of our staff who are all keen to show how far we’ve come as a group.
“He has always been a pleasure to work with and our relationship has gone from strength to strength over the years we have worked together.
"At the moment we are in the planning phase, though next season will come around soon enough and, like me, I know Steve can’t wait to get stuck in.”
