Cuckney CC’s Andrew Stephenson and Midland CC’s Faisal Ali were named Club Heroes at Nottinghamshire’s virtual Covid Champion OSCAs, which are available to view above.
The duo were amongst six volunteers recognised for their exceptional contributions to the recreational game during a season badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Andy has been a shining light for Cuckney during the lockdown and during Covid restrictions,” said Richard Bostock in nominating Stephenson for the award.
“He's enabled a swift return to cricket and a seamless transition to a Covid-safe environment. His tireless efforts have enabled us all to have an easier life at Cuckney.”
Ali, meanwhile, received recognition for sourcing a venue and arranging fixtures for Midland CC, a club was only in its second year.
“Faisal went above and beyond to ensure the team had games to play, despite not being able to play himself due to injury,” said nominator Kiran Hassan.
“If not for him, Midland CC members would not have seen any kind of cricket this year.”
Gareth Jones of Ordsall Bridon CC picked up the Coaches award for his tireless efforts with the club’s junior and women’s sides, while Mike Beard (Bassetlaw & District Junior League) won the Leagues award for his representation of the junior leagues and his organisation of a successful season.
Chris Berry triumphed in the Social Media category for his efforts in keeping Gedling Colliery CC connected during lockdown, whilst Maruis Delport picked up the Workforce award for his efforts in preparing pitches for a congested season.
