Nottinghamshire slumped to a ten-wicket loss against Somerset at Trent Bridge, after being bowled out for 135 on the final day of their Specsavers County Championship match.
Set to score just 100, the visitors completed their chase just before tea, with Marcus Trescothick and Johann Myburgh reaching their target in only 16.5 overs.
Trescothick, who scored 218 before being last out in the first innings, took the opportunity to plunder an unbeaten 37, getting his runs from 46 balls, with eight fours. Johann Myburgh added an undefeated 58 to his first innings knock of 54.
The day began with Nottinghamshire on 58-2 and holding a slender lead of 22, with Jake Libby and Brendan Taylor at the crease.
Somerset’s seam attack immediately made life difficult and runs were increasingly hard to come by, with only 22 being added in the first hour of the day.
By that stage Brendan Taylor and Riki Wessels had both fallen to Jim Allenby. The former Zimbabwe captain had made 28 before being pinned lbw and then Wessels edged to Marcus Trescothick at slip for nought.
Jake Libby followed his first innings’ score of 90 with a battling 44 but after three hours at the crease he played on, to the bowling of Craig Overton.
Lewis Gregory inflicted more misery upon the home side by collecting two wickets in an over. Chris Read was especially unfortunate. Pulling the bowler away for six he stepped back and trod on his stumps. Luke Fletcher then had his off pole flattened for a fourth-ball duck.
Imran Tahir bravely tried to help Samit Patel steer the innings towards calmer waters but he was bowled by Jack Leach, soon after heaving the spinner over the ropes at long on.
With Brett Hutton absent, through a hand injury sustained in the first innings, Patel had no option but to try and muscle a few late runs but he picked out deep midwicket to hand Gregory figures of 3-27.
Somerset duly completed their third consecutive win over Nottinghamshire, with Myburgh putting some gloss on the performance by hitting Tahir for three consecutive sixes as he brought up his 50 from 51 balls, with six fours and those three maximums.
Having been 196 without loss on the first day, Nottinghamshire’s subsequent collapse leaves them without a championship victory since the opening round of matches this season and they remain close to the foot of the Division One table.
