A fine all round display from Nottinghamshire’s Seconds’ bowling attack dismissed Yorkshire for just 157 on day one of the Championship fixture at Trent College, before the hosts closed on 109-3 in reply.

At the beginning of the day, Yorkshire won the toss and chose to bat first but were immediately on the back foot, losing their first five wickets with just 39 runs on the board.

Jordan Thompson (31) and Jonathan Read steadied the ship but Dominic Brown returned to dismiss the former, caught behind by Adeel Shafique as Yorkshire went to lunch on 87-6.

Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals with James Wainman run out by Anuj Dal for 18 and Read (21) removed by Ben Kitt, the 69th wicket of the season for the Nottinghamshire seamer.

Luke Wood then returned to dismiss the final two Yorkshire batsmen to finish with figures of 4-42, the visitors all out for 157.

Nottinghamshire began their reply with Joe Barrett (6) and Will Root (3), but Ryan Sidebottom, on his return from injury, removed both before the tea break.

Anuj Dal fell shortly after the resumption for five, the 13th wicket to fall on the first day as Nottinghamshire slipped to 33-3.

However, Captain Will Gidman and Brown shared in an unbeaten 74-run stand to guide Nottinghamshire to the close in a strong position, on 109-3.

Gidman ended the day unbeaten on 59, whilst Brown was 25*, Nottinghamshire trailing by 48 after the first day.
