Mick Newell took positives from the bowling performance and called for improvement with the bat after 18 wickets fell on the opening day of Nottinghamshire's friendly against the Combined Campuses and Colleges in Barbados.
The hosts posted 252-9 batting first in this two-day friendly with Windward Islands opener Kavem Hodge scoring an unbeaten 159.
Nottinghashire posted 99 for nine in response with former West Indies bowler Fidel Edwards taking eight for 40.
Newell admitted that a collapse from 60 without loss to 99 for nine came as a shock, but believes the effect on his side will be positive.
“I was quite happy with our bowling performance,” he said.
“And then we got off to a nice start with the bat.
“I didn’t really see it coming but we came unstuck against some very good bowling and some slow footwork against the swinging ball.
“In a way it’s quite nice to be brought down to earth at this stage of the season and the players now know that they need to adapt, do better and hopefully we’ll come again tomorrow and show that.”
The match will continue today at 10am local time (2pm UK time).
