Nottinghamshire came up against two in-form players as they opened their pre-season tour of Barbados against Combined Campuses and Colleges.
Kavem Hodge made an unbeaten 159 for the hosts before West Indies’ fast bowler Fidel Edwards starred with an eight-wicket haul.
With Edwards and fellow Test player Omar Phillips bolstering the students’ side, the Combined Campuses and Colleges posted 252-9 batting first in this two-day friendly.
Hodge, who was captaining the representative side, struck 20 fours and four sixes in his knock for the home side.
Steven Mullaney took 3-15, Brett Hutton 2-28, Matt Carter 2-79, Samit Patel 1-14 and Adam Tilcock 1-23.
Nottinghamshire responded with an opening stand of 62 as Mullaney scored 29 and Greg Smith 22 in his first appearance for Nottinghamshire.
The return of Edwards, who took 165 wickets in his nine-year Test career for the West Indies, sparked a collapse that saw the tourists close on 99 for nine.
The Barbadian fast bowler had figures of 0-11 after his new ball spell of three overs, but finished with 8-40 from 11.
The match will continue today at 10am local time (2pm UK time).
