Seventeen wickets fell on the first day of Notts’ second eleven game against Derbyshire as honours remained even.
With the day starting on time under overcast conditions, Derbyshire won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Their decision was proved to be a good one as Notts lost skipper Alex Hales in the second over with no runs on the board.
The morning session was a struggle for the batsman with lunch being reached on 54-3, Sam Kelsall and Sam Wood the other two casualties.
The second session didn’t get much better as wickets came regularly despite starts from Tom Rowe (22) and Matt Cross (25) as the score reached 97-8.
Rear-guard action from Alex Mellor (33) and George Bacon (11) made sure Notts passed and went beyond the 100 mark.
However, they both fell in quick succession after a 47-run stand as Notts were bowled out for 144.
Ben Cotton (3-28) and Antonio Palladino (3-30) returned the best figures for the home side.
Nottinghamshire took the wicket of former team captain Scott Elstone (0) in the first over and at tea the score was 24-1 off 9 overs.
After tea Dan Redfern (37) and Paul Borrington (32) enjoyed a 72-run stand as they raced towards Notts’ total.
However, they both fell after making starts and from there a collapse left Derbyshire in a bit of trouble.
At the end of the day only two other batsman had got into double figures as Derbyshire ended on 132-7 on a rain-interrupted day.
Jake Ball, Brett Hutton and George Bacon all took two wickets each with Ben Kitt taking the 7th with the last ball of the day.
