Yorkshire paceman Tim Bresnan made up for lost overs with a four wicket haul as Nottinghamshire’s poor form with the bat continued at Scarborough.
Notts closed on 101-5 having faced just 34 overs due to time lost to rain and bad light with David Hussey remaining unbeaten on 59.
Hussey scored 50 runs from boundaries to help Notts recover from 15-2, the only Notts player to reach double figures.
“David Hussey looks like he’s playing in a different game to our other batsmen but Bresnan bowled a good spell at our openers and got his rewards for that,” said Notts Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“We’ve got attacking players in the middle order but we need to find a way of getting a start because we’re finding ourselves at 20-2 too often.
“It’s a good wicket with pace and bounce and it should suit good batting but we lost wickets to a combination of good balls and disappointing shots.”
Matt Wood edged to slip off Bresnan before Bilal Shafayat fell lbw to Matthew Hoggard. Bresnan also induced Samit Patel and Ali Brown to edge to the slips but had no answer for Hussey who reached fifty with his only six, a straight drive over Adil Rashid.
