Liam Patterson-White showered praise on Olly Stone’s eight-wicket showing but reflected similarly positively on his own performance as Nottinghamshire recorded a ten-wicket win over Leicestershire to go top of Division One.

Patterson-White described Stone’s “phenomenal” display as “the best spell of fast bowling that I've seen on a cricket pitch.”

He went on: “It’s been a good few days for the team. There were loads of the lads that bowled really well, [and] batted really well.

“We are always striving to do better but in terms of a complete performance that was probably as close as you can get, really.”

The left-arm spinner, who claimed a second-innings five-wicket haul, also analysed his own showing strongly, crediting his off-season’s work in being instrumental.

“I've worked really hard over the winter to try and get my bowling to be even better and do a better job for the team,” he said.

“I’ve been working in particular on my consistency. I feel like over the last couple of years I've probably struggled a little bit with that.

“[In this game] I've bowled 50-odd and gone at less than twos in both innings, so for me, that's very pleasing.”

He offered an insight into his approach on the field and how best he feels his skills can contribute positively to the team.

“I try not to go searching for wickets. I try to keep it really, really simple, to control the run rate,” he explained. “If I get a wicket or two here and there, then it's just a bonus.”

“First and foremost, that's my main role. If I can go at less than threes and give the seamers a little bit of a break and let them rotate at one end, then I feel like I've done my role really well.

“I’m pleased with where I am because there have been a couple of rough patches over the last couple of years.

“It’s nice to feel I’ve worked hard, trained really well and got myself back into a good spot, which is where I feel like I am at the minute.”
