Ben Martindale was delighted to score his first senior hundred in Notts’ close-fought defeat to Kent.

Martindale was the pick of the bunch as he scored an outstanding 101 to mark his maiden Notts century and continue his form in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

“I’m very happy to score my first senior century; it’s obviously a very special feeling when you make that occasion,” he said.

“It's disappointing that we couldn’t get the win, as that’s what we wanted at the end of the day, but very happy still.

“It’s nice to get a big score. I feel like I got in the other day against Leicester, and I’ve kept getting in, so it was nice to get a score on the board today as it’s something I’ve been working towards for a while.”

The Outlaws set Kent a total of 293 for victory after further cameos from Kyle Verreynne and Lyndon James, which they hit with just four balls to spare.

Martindale said: “It’s a tough defeat to take as I felt like we were in it all the way through.

“It became a bit of a cat-and-mouse affair in the last four or five overs, but they played well, and we were unfortunate to come out on the wrong side.”

Paul Franks’ side now have five days off before they take on Northants Steelbacks in Chesterfield, a ground Martindale plays his club cricket at, so he’s looking forward to heading there in a Notts shirt.

“It’s going to be a really nice occasion,” he said

“It will be nice to put the feet up for a few days as it’s been a long week, but I’m very excited for Friday.

“I know the dimensions and how the ground plays, so it will be enjoyable to play there and see some familiar faces.

“It’s a shame that Ben Slater isn’t available, as we would’ve had two Chesterfield lads playing together, which would’ve been amazing, but still very excited to play there in a Notts shirt.”
