Fast bowler Josh Tongue has signed a new three-year contract that will see him remain with Nottinghamshire until at least the end of the 2029 season.
Tongue, 28, has claimed 33 wickets in seven First-Class matches for the Green and Golds at an average of just 22.87 since moving to Trent Bridge in 2024.
He played a major part in securing the club’s first County Championship title for 15 years last summer, famously claiming a five-wicket haul at the Kia Oval to dethrone holders Surrey.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be staying at Trent Bridge for at least three more years,” said Tongue.
“We have a brilliant squad here, and we made some unbelievably special memories with the Championship win last year that will stay with me for life.”
“I want to thank Peter Moores, Mick Newell, and Kevin Shine especially for all they’ve done for me, and I can’t wait to carry on repaying their faith in the years to come.”
Tongue made his Test debut in June 2023, and since joining Nottinghamshire, has gone on to play a further seven matches in the format for England, claiming 39 wickets at 26.53.
In December, he became the first Englishman for 27 years to receive the Mullagh Medal, given to the Player of the Match in the MCG’s Boxing Day Test, after returning match figures of 7/89.
“I love playing here, and I feel my game has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, so I can’t wait to see what the future holds,” continued Tongue.
“I’m committed to giving everything for Nottinghamshire whenever I step out onto the field as part of the team, and I’m really excited about the next few years.”
Head Coach, Peter Moores, added: “It’s great news that Josh has agreed a new contract, committing his future to the Club for the next three years.
“It’s a real boost to have current International players at the Club as it continually reminds everyone the opportunities that our game has to offer.
“We all saw the impact he had on our matches last season, and to have that quality within the bowling group gives everyone confidence.
“We all know how good he is on the field, but he’s also a great character off it, and I’m looking forward to seeing where he can take his game to in the years to come.”
