Nottinghamshire’s Second XI enjoyed the upper hand on day one of their three-day friendly with Kent at Polo Farm.

The hosts were dismissed for 254 inside two sessions, before Notts reached 131/1 at stumps, trailing by 123 runs.

James Hayes had accounted for both Kent openers inside the first three overs of the day, clipping the top of Ben Dawkins’ off stump, before Ekansh Singh was well caught by Dane Schadendorf.

Rob Lord recorded figures of 3/47 from his 13 overs, removing Jaydn Denly, Corey Flintoff and Kashif Ali – with Denly (65) and Ali (52) joined by wicketkeeper Chris Benjamin (54) in passing fifty.

Benjamin was bowled by Liam Patterson-White (3/93), who also accounted for Seb Allison and Pip Jackson, while Francis Moore also secured two scalps as Kent were bowled out inside 62 overs.

In reply, Ben Martindale hit seven fours as he cantered to 63 runs from 90 balls before being pinned by Matt Parkinson.

Sam Seecharan remains unbeaten having chalked up his own half-century, and will be joined by nightwatchman James Hayes as Notts look to move towards parity on the morning of day two.
