Former Hampshire cricketer and international umpire John Holder is the guest of the Nottingham Cricket Lovers’ Society on Thursday 21 March in the Long Room at Trent Bridge (7pm).

Born in Barbados, Holder emigrated to England and played for Hampshire between 1968 and 1972, before injury curtailed his county career. After a period in league cricket, he joined the first-class umpires panel in 1983. By the time he retired in 2009, he had umpired over 900 top flight games. He stood in 11 Test Matches and 19 ODIs and became one of the first neutral umpires in international cricket when he stood in the Pakistan v India Test series in 1989.

More recently John has co-authored the popular book “You Are the Umpire” and has starred in the entertaining and informative “Ask the Umpire” feature on BBC Radio’s ‘Test Match Special’.

The session with John Holder will be preceded by the Society’s Annual General Meeting.

Attendance at the meeting is covered in the annual subscription for the Cricket Lovers’ Society. Non-members are very welcome to attend this individual meeting at a cost of £5 on the door.

This is the final meeting of the 2023/24 programme. Nottingham Cricket Lovers’ Society will re-commence its meetings in October 2024.
