Marie Kelly’s unbeaten 89 fired The Blaze to victory over Central Sparks at Edgbaston, and secured top spot in the Charlotte Edwards Cup after the end of the group stages.
The opener struck nine fours in her 63-ball knock, sharing a 106-run stand with Kathryn Bryce for the second wicket, as The Blaze won by five wickets.
Kirstie Gordon’s side now go onto face the same opponent in Finals Day on Saturday, after topping the group with 39 points and nine victories from then matches.
Home skipper Eve Jones won the toss at the top of the day, choosing to bat first under sunny Birmingham skies.
The Blaze’s opening brace of bowlers, Grace Ballinger and Sarah Glenn, applied early pressure on the home batters, the first eight balls being dots, as the Sparks posted 25/0 in the powerplay.
Having soaked up the first couple of overs, Davina Perrin and Abbey Freeborn took the attack to the visitors, adding 67 for the first wicket.
With runs coming thick and fast, Josie Groves applied the brakes to the home side’s innings, dismissing the dangerous Perrin for 37 in her first over.
Groves’ fellow leg-spinner, Glenn, then induced a false shot from Freeborn (39), the Sparks’ opener top edging a sweep to a tumbling Ballinger at short fine leg.
Sparks skipper Jones came and went inside six deliveries, Ballinger picking up a well-deserved scalp to finish with figures of 1-16 from her four overs.
Groves (2-13), Graham (2-38) and Gordon (2-14) continued to pile the pressure on the hosts, regular wickets halting the late-innings momentum, Sparks finishing with 138/8.
In exact parallel to the Sparks’ innings, The Blaze began with eight dot balls, including the loss of Teresa Graves, before a scampered single got the visitors’ account up and running.
Despite the early loss of Graves, Marie Kelly and Kathryn Bryce kept the pressure on the home attack, making the most of the fielding restrictions of the powerplay to reach 34-1 after six overs.
They would extend that to 106 by the middle of the 14th over, before Bryce, leading run-scorer in the group stages with 372, fell to Grace Potts, stumped for 27.
The Sparks sensed an opening, and capitalised with the quick wickets of Sarah Bryce and Graham, The Blaze 118-4 at the beginning of the 18th over.
A quick fire ten off five balls from Ella Claridge alleviated the pressure, before Glenn put the finishing touches on the victory with four deliveries to spare.
The headlines, however, were reserved for Kelly, who marshalled the chase to perfection, spending the entire match on the field in the process.
The Blaze now head into their second consecutive Finals Day appearance, where they will face fourth-placed Central Sparks in the semi-final on Saturday.
