The Blaze’s final game before the Rachael Heyhoe Flint takes a break for The Hundred ended in no result as weather conditions got the better of the cricket at Lindum Cricket Club.

An early long delay gave way to 26 overs of cricket, in which the Northern Diamonds made 188-8 before rain once again intervened and play was called off just after 5pm.

The result puts The Blaze in fifth position after ten matches, with four games remaining in the group stages of the competition.

After more than three hours of waiting due to rain, Marie Kelly won the toss and inserted the visitors at Lindum Cricket Club.

The Diamonds raced out of the blocks in the reduced powerplay, putting on 44 for the loss of Lauren Winfield-Hill, run out by Kelly for 10.

Emma Marlow and Sterre Kalis fell in consecutive Cassidy McCarthy deliveries, the pace bowler starting her spell in fine fashion as The Blaze made the best possible start to the powerplay overs.

Heather Graham then added the scalp of fellow  Australian Erin Burns, well caught by Tammy Beaumont for a run-a-ball 26, as the visitors slipped to 48-4.

England’s Bess Heath then powered her way to a 45-ball 61, eventually dismissed by Grace Ballinger having struck eight fours and a six.

Ballinger added two more scalps to finish with 3-43 from six overs, before the persistent rain took the players off the field for them to not be able to return.
