Top-order batter Ben Slater has penned a new contract, keeping him at Trent Bridge until the end of the 2027 season.

The left hander struck 949 Division One runs in 2024 - second only to Haseeb Hameed in the Notts side.

That tally put him in the top 10 run-scorers in the league, while he made two hundreds and five fifties, with an average in excess of 45.

He also extended his fine record in the 50-over format with 398 runs at an average a shade under 57.

Slater remains amongst the best in the world in the format, with only six active players averaging more in List A cricket.

“I’m delighted to get this contract, to stay at Trent Bridge and to help the club continue to move in the right direction on the field,” Slater said.

“It was obviously pleasing to have a good year personally last year. My game has felt pretty settled for a period of time but I still feel like I’m getting better and better.

“The aim is for those contributions to be in winning causes as often as possible - making runs that can really influence the outcome of games.

“Hopefully that can dovetail with the rest of the top order continuing to put in the sorts of performances they have over the last year or two, particularly in the County Championship - when we put in that complete performance, we know we can beat anyone.

“I’m keen to keep leading from the front in the 50 over format. It would be great to get to a Trent Bridge final as a Nottinghamshire player, and that’s something I want to make a reality in the next few years.”

Slater arrived at Nottinghamshire on loan halfway through the 2018 season, before making the move permanent the following winter.

A century on his home debut against Yorkshire endeared him to the Trent Bridge faithful, and the Chesterfield-born left-hander has since amassed nearly 6,300 runs in all formats.

“Ben has developed into a really reliable top-order batter, and his stats speak for themselves,” Head Coach, Peter Moores, said.

“He is up there amongst the leading run scorers in the First Division over the last two seasons and the partnership he has formed with Haseeb at the top of the order has been one of the cornerstones of our best performances”.

“He continues to work hard at his game and that has been evident with his steady improvement year-on-year. Add to this his 50-over record, which is amongst the very best, and you can see why he has become a key player within our squad.”
