Dillon Pennington has signed a contract extension at Trent Bridge, committing him to Nottinghamshire until the end of 2027.

The seamer enjoyed a stellar first year with the club, claiming 31 County Championship wickets at less than 24 apiece to earn selection for England’s Test squad against West Indies.

That included his first five-wicket haul for Nottinghamshire against Somerset at Trent Bridge in June.

Having missed the latter stages of the season through injury, he was then selected for England Lions’ ongoing tour of South Africa.

“I have absolutely loved my time at Notts so far,” Pennington said.

“It is such a good place to play cricket, and a brilliant group of people. I think Pete [Moores] is brilliant, and I have formed a really positive relationship with Kevin Shine.

“I trust him with anything, and that was the case as soon as I joined. He has helped to push me to the next level which was my goal when I came to the club, and whilst I know there is still a long way to go, I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made.

“On a collective level, hopefully in the next couple of years we can compete at the top of the table and push for the Championship - I feel that is a realistic ambition.

“This group of players all have that mindset, and, ultimately, we all play this game to be the best we can. The squad is evolving and changing and it is a really exciting time to be at Nottinghamshire.”

Pennington made the switch to Trent Bridge to work with Shine having spent his formative years at Worcestershire.

Only one player - Matthew Potts - took as many Division One wickets having played the same number - or fewer - games (eight) across the season.

He now has 171 First-Class wickets to his name, as well as a further 55 in T20 cricket.

“The fact that Dillon was our leading wicket-taker after his first seven games for the club says everything about the impact he had on the start of our season,” Head Coach, Peter Moores, remarked.

“Moving clubs and adapting to new environments is never easy, but Dillon has fitted in brilliantly ever since he arrived.

“He bowled with pace and accuracy which ultimately saw him selected for England, and whilst he was really unlucky to get injured when he did, his journey during the summer showed the trajectory his career is on.

“He has an exciting future ahead of him with plenty of room to grow. His attitude and approach have been outstanding and he has already become a very popular member of the playing staff.”
