Career-best performances from Ben Slater and Rob Lord set-up a comprehensive 107-run victory for Notts Outlaws over Surrey in their Metro Bank One Day Cup clash at Guildford.

Slater crashed 12 fours and nine sixes on the way to a sublime 164 from 119 balls at the top of the order to help Notts post 378/6 at the end of their 50 overs.

Lord then returned figures of 5/45 during his 10 overs to dismantle the host’s top and middle order and secure the Outlaws’ third win of the competition.

After being put into bat, Freddie McCann showed intent early on for the away side, scoring five boundaries inside the first six overs, including a lofted straight drive back over Yousef Majid’s head.

But the opener’s fast start came to an end midway through the seventh over after a mistimed shot found the hands of Surrey skipper Rory Burns at mid-off, via the bowling of Ryan Patel, with the score on 39.

Jack Haynes joined Ben Slater at the crease and crashed his first boundary of the competition through point before following that up with a domineering pull stroke a few overs later.

The pair both settled into their respective innings quickly and set about building a solid foundation for the away side.

Slater reached a well-crafted fifty from 46 balls, including of three fours and two sixes, the first of which was a glorious pull shot off the bowling of Conor McKerr.

The duo’s hundred partnership soon followed at the end of the 24th over as the two batters began to up the ante, a mood encapsulated by Haynes slog-sweeping Majid for six to bring up his half-century.

Haynes departed for a dynamic 86 from 85 balls, ending a 187-run stand with Slater, after finding Cameron Steel in the field off McKerr.

At the other end, Slater remained resolute and went to his eighth List A century off 93 balls adding another five fours and one six to his tally in the process.

Once he reached three figures, Slater moved through the gears as he smashed a further six sixes during his onslaught, which resulted in four replacement balls.

During Slater’s blitz, skipper Haseeb Hameed (7 from 13 balls) and Lyndon James (5 from 9 balls) both fell in quick succession to McKerr and Majid respectively.

Matt Montgomery was in at six, and alongside Slater the pair quickly put on fifty for the fifth wicket from just 27 balls to see Notts pass 300.

Slater’s magnificent knock eventually came to an end for 164, picking out Foakes to give James Taylor his first wicket, but the damage had been done.

Montgomery made a quickfire 38 off 21 balls before McKerr removed him for his third wicket of the match.

Tom Moores finished 24 not out and Liam Patterson-White unbeaten on seven as the visitors posted 378/6 from their 50 overs.

The Surrey innings started steadily as Patel and Sibley put on 66 for the first wicket in pursuit of their target of 379.

But once James removed Patel for 35, Rob Lord systematically dismantled the Surrey batting line up with fine display of pace bowling.

He first removed Ben Geddes for 34 thanks to a spectacular diving catch from Moores behind the stumps.

Lord then had Foakes caught close-in on the offside by Hameed for 10 after Patterson-White trapped Burns in front without scoring five overs before.

Cameron Steel then gave Lord his third scalp of the afternoon, feathering one behind to Moores who took the regulation catch to leave the hosts 160/5 in the 29th over.

Dom Sibley became Lord’s fourth wicket when he sent the ball straight up in the air - Lord taking a good catch off his own bowling.

The five-for was complete for Lord when James held onto the catch that removed Josh Blake for 10, the ecstasy clear to see on the face of the young bowler and his teammate.

Surrey were 186/7 at that point and despite some late-order hitting from McKerr (71 from 36 balls), Luke Fletcher and James took the last three wickets to claim victory.
