Rovman Powell feels the close bonds forged in the Trent Rockets camp have been beneficial, after he powered the hosts to victory over Oval Invincibles at Trent Bridge.
The West Indies international hit 45 runs from 27 balls to take Rockets to within touching distance of their target of 151, before Tom Alsop hit the winning runs.
Powell, in his first season with the side, was impressed with the tight-knit atmosphere within the group.
“We haven’t qualified, but to see the guys stick together even though we haven’t is a fantastic thing,” he said.
“It goes to show the family atmosphere that this franchise has, and long may that continue.
“I think we have played some good cricket at Trent Bridge, and the supporters have come out in their numbers and supported us.
“A lot of credit has to be given to the fans for the way they backed us every game.”
Having suffered defeat in their opening two home fixtures, the Rockets’ men recorded back-to-back victories in West Bridgford to sign off their home campaign.
And Powell was pleased to prove his prowess in the closing days of the group stage.
“That is what you get paid for, to be honest,” he said of his performance.
“It is unfortunate that I haven’t been able to bring the team across the line in more games, but having said that it has been a pretty good competition.
“Even though we didn’t get the job done in the first two games, we always knew we had the ability in our team to win those games.”
After seeing Invincibles score 150/3 from their 100 balls, the hosts needed a positive start – which Alex Hales was equipped to provide – before Alsop secured the spoils in the closing stages.
“We were a little bit behind at halfway in the chase, but we had wickets in hand,” he said.
“Once you have wickets in hand in these conditions you can put the opposition under pressure, and that worked for us tonight.
“We always knew Alex was a key player for us, he gives us a flying start in the powerplay.
“And Tom has played only two games but he has been fantastic in both, which goes to show the depth of the team.
“He couldn’t start more games because of the senior guys we have, but for him to get his opportunity and show what he can do is fantastic.”
