Notts’ youngsters impressed once again on day two against Surrey as Farhan Ahmed finished with seven wickets - in the process becoming the youngest to take five wickets or more in an innings in first-class cricket in England - while Freddie McCann closed unbeaten on 69 to lead Notts' persuit of 525.
A maiden County Championship century from Sai Sudharsan after Rory Burns' 161 on the opening day marched Surrey towards that commanding total.
Skipper Haseeb Hameed and Freddie McCann then formed a second-wicket partnership worth 136 in reply before both Hameed and nightwatchman Brett Hutton departed in the dying embers, with Nottinghamshire concluding proceedings 133/4 - trailing by 381.
Sudharsan and Jordan Clark continued from where they left off overnight, adding 79 in the opening session, before the latter was caught and bowled by Liam-Patterson-White with Cam Steel run out by Ben Slater shortly after.
Ahmed was back amongst the spoils after the break, despite Sudharsan continuing on his steady charge towards his hundred, with the scalp of Tom Lawes to seal his five-wicket haul, caught by Verreynne with a tickle down the leg side.
Having picked up his sixth, removing Conor McKerr with a catch off his own bowling to end a 52-run partnership for the ninth wicket, the youngster was four deliveries into his 51st over when adding the 22-year-old Sudharsan as his seventh, the left-hander’s demise coming on a score of 105.
THe Green and Golds' reply started faulteringly with Clark’s impressive yorker beating Ben Slater, but McCann and Hameed combined to stage an impressive counter.
Hameed brought up his half-century from 74 balls while McCann took 70, and the pair looked sure to see the day out but for Jacks to find sharp turn to bowl the skipper with a little over two overs left, before Hutton fell with two deliveries remaining.
