A team performance with the bat saw Nottinghamshire begin strongly in their Second XI Championship contest with Leicestershire.

Ben Martindale, Tom Loten, Dane Schadendorf and Byron Hatton-Lowe all made confident showings with the bat in Loughborough by tallying a half-century each, Loten making 12 fours and a six on the way to top-scoring for Notts with 83 from 90 deliveries as his side posted 387.

The Green and Golds then began brightly with the ball to earn the wickets of both of the Leicestershire openers in the first seven overs of the Foxes’ reply, Sam Evans nicking a fine edge off George Burrows into the gloves of Dane Schadendorf before Farhan Ahmed bowled Sol Budinger for 22.

Leicestershire will resume their first innings at 11am, having posted 27/2 at stumps.
