Sarah Bryce praised the unity of The Blaze's squad after securing victory over their Charlotte Edwards Cup conquerors Southern Vipers in the Isle of Wight.
Opener Bryce hit a half-century as the visitors claimed a four-wicket win and consolidate their spot at the top of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
“It’s always a big game when we play Vipers," she said.
"They’re a strong team and have had a lot of success but we knew we had what it took to get over the line. And we showed a united front and put out that performance as a group.
The Blaze’s eventual victory was set up by a strong start in the field, with Vipers' openers kept on a leash during the powerplay.
“You always look to take wickets in the powerplay, but you know if that’s not always the case you have keep the pressure on another way,"she said.
"That was down to Gracie B (Ballinger) and Nads (de Klerk) as well.
"They didn’t quite get the wicket, but both had a pretty good stint and kept the run rate down.
"And when Kirstie (Gordon) came on later she increased that pressure, which built and gave us those wickets that we needed at the end of the powerplay”
The hosts then made a composed start with the bat, with both openers hitting half-centuries.
“I think we took a lot of confidence out there with us and with how we approached the job," she said.
“We built a strong partnership, and it was good to start with that going into the innings, and then Boyce, Kirky (Michaela Kirk) and the others came out after.
"It really pays off to have a team that can perform with the bat, everyone does their bit, and it shows our strength as a side.
"And of course it’s always good to get those fifties personally. I want to step up and be out there performing for the team.”
This was the first time The Blaze have faced Southern Vipers since that Charlotte Edwards Cup final clash, but that certainly didn’t faze the likes of Bryce today.
“We just try to not overthink it, play our way and do all that we can do on the day," she said.
"We want to go out there, have a good game and show that we are capable of winning as a side with people like Tammy (Beaumont) and (Sarah) Glenny missing on England duties.
"Everyone can perform and it goes to show how strong we are as a team.
"It’s also great to know that no matter what, we can find a way to win. Obviously, we know they’re a strong team so its good to be able to show that we can play our game and not let pressure get to us going forward.”
