Nottinghamshire's Farhan Ahmed has been named in England's squad for January's U19 World Cup.

The 15-year-old is the youngest player in the Three Lions' squad for the tournament in South Africa, and has made 11 appearances for his country at U19 level.

He is the latest Nottinghamshire Academy players and graduates to receive international recognition, with Fateh Singh, Liam Patterson-White and Lyndon James also named in age-group or Lions squads in the last 12 months.

Farhan's elder brother Rehan, who also progressed through the Nottinghamshire pathway and is currently in England's senior white-ball squad, spoke of his fraternal pride after hearing of his fellow spinner's achievement.

"You should be very excited, actually. He’s very very exciting – even though he bowls off-spin he’s quite exciting for an off-spinner, which is quite surprising,” he said.

“I’m very happy for him, he’s very young and he’s been picked for such a big thing as well. It’s an unbelievable achievement. He’s actually at school right now doing his physics test.”

The World Cup runs between 13 January and 4 February, with England - to be led by Durham's Ben McKinney - drawn alongside Scotland, South Africa and West Indies in Group B.
