The Blaze have signed batter Lizelle Lee for the remainder of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.

The 31-year-old replaces compatriot Nadine de Klerk, who has returned to the Proteas for international fixtures against Pakistan.

Lee, who returned 165 runs for Trent Rockets in the most recent edition of The Hundred, brings a wealth of experience to The Blaze, with over 5,000 runs in 184 international appearances across three formats.

In January 2022, she was named the ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year, shortly before retiring from international cricket.

“I am very excited to join up with The Blaze, particularly having played with some of my soon-to-be teammates during The Hundred,” she said.

“They have been playing really well across all competitions so far, and I hope that I can contribute and help push for qualification in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.”

Having finished their inaugural season in the Charlotte Edwards Cup as runners-up, The Blaze are currently top of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy table with four fixtures remaining.

Once the group stages are complete, second will play third in an eliminator, with the victors facing the group winners at The County Ground, Northampton on 24 September to compete for the 50-over title.

“Lizelle is a great addition for us as we get to the business end of the competition,” Head Coach, Chris Guest, said.

“We’ll benefit not only from her skills, but her knowhow in big games too. We’ve seen plenty of times how destructive she can be on her day.

“We are in a good position with our focus solely on 50 over cricket now, which gives the team a real energy and drive to finish the season well, and Lizelle will add impetus to the group.”
