Lyndon James hopes the Outlaws will draw on their experiences from last year’s 50-over competition as they enter a crucial stage of the Metro Bank One Day Cup group phase.
The homegrown all-rounder is part of an unchanged 14-man squad for Notts’ trip to Radlett to face Middlesex (Tuesday 15 August, 11am start).
James top-scored for the Outlaws with 71 in a narrow defeat to Surrey at the John Fretwell Centre, having contributed 82 in a winning cause the previous week at Leicester.
Following losses to Hampshire and the Three Feathers over the weekend, Notts sit fourth in their One Day Cup group, one point behind Kent and Hampshire in the final two qualification spots.
The Outlaws claimed back-to-back victories to secure a knockout place in the 2022 edition of the tournament, and James is hoping his side can replicate that form this week.
“We always talk with our white-ball teams about getting momentum at the right time,” he told Trent Bridge Live.
“We did that last year; we had a couple of must-win games that were almost knockout games in the group stage, beating Leicester and Surrey to make it into the quarter finals.
“We need similar performances in the next three games, and I feel like, with the good stuff that has come out of our games so far, that we can peak at the right point, put three good performances in and hopefully get into the knockouts.”
The Outlaws now head to Middlesex’s outground, before a trip to Kent for their final away game in the group stages on Thursday.
It’s a schedule which permits just a little time for reflection.
“I’m sure we’ll have a chat about the last couple of games when we get down to Radlett, and look at those areas that we want to work on,” said James.
“But we don’t want to ignore the good things to look back on from the competition so far.
“With the quick turnaround, the priority has to be making sure we’re ready and in the right frame of mind to face Middlesex.”
