Sol Budinger’s 18-ball 31 was in vain as Notts Outlaws’ Second XI T20 game against East Midlands neighbours Leicestershire Foxes was curtailed by rain, with only nine overs possible at the Uptonsteel County Ground.
Budinger hit six fours and a maximum before skying Gavin Griffiths to Louis Kimber in the fifth over, but the Outlaws’ innings was less than halfway through, at 65/4, when rain ended the clash early.
The left-hander’s innings enabled Notts, despite losing the toss and being asked to bat, to cruise to a 47-run opening partnership in just 26 deliveries.
Ben Slater (12) fell an over later no further runs added as he attempted to ramp Beuran Hendricks but found Nat Bowley behind square, before Hendricks saw Joey Evison nick through to Sam Bates two balls later.
Skipper Haseeb Hameed was unbeaten on six, and Lyndon James made a breezy start, striking his second ball for four through backward point, but he pulled his next delivery from Ed Barnes to Harry Swindells.
There was time for Matthew Montgomery to hit a run-a-ball seven, and he and Hameed were unbeaten as the umpires called an ultimately permanent halt to play after Griffiths had concluded bowling the game’s ninth over.
