The advent of a new year means the return of the Forget me Notts Café, with the support of a new Trent Bridge Community Trust partner, Right at Home.
The Forget Me Notts Café is one of four sessions on the Trust’s flagship wellbeing project, and offers the chance for participants - individuals living with dementia and their carers - to socialise and share their experiences with one another in an inclusive environment.
The new partnership sees trusted care providers Right at Home hold discussions directly with carers to help enhance the support offered to them in their journey, tailoring advice to ensure that their wellbeing, and that of the individual being cared for, is maximised.
Christopher Transley, Managing Director of Right at Home Nottingham, said: “It’s great for our team to be partnering with the Forget me Notts Café, advocating their meaningful activities to improve the wellbeing and cognitive health for all those who attend.
“Through this partnership, we aim to share some of the core principles behind our own comprehensive Dementia support service based on years of research and experience.
“The Forget Me Notts sessions prove how important it is to continue to socialise in a friendly environment, meeting others who might share similar challenges, and we are looking forward to being a part of this journey.”
The usual specialist entertainment and physical actvity is delivered at the sessions, with ‘chairobics’ and seated dance amongst the highlights of the Café’s offering.
“We have always valued, and been rightly proud of, the support Forget Me Notts is able to offer carers during what can be an extremely challenging time,” said Ian Richardson, Health and Wellbeing Officer.
“This partnership with Right at Home extends our provision, and their knowledge and experience in the field helps to ensure individuals living with dementia and their carers are given the best advice possible to thrive despite the difficult circumstances in which they find themselves.”
The extension to the Forget Me Notts Café programme is supplemented by a seven-week workshop delivered by Radford Care Group in April, during which carers will be offered further support in how to handle the challenges they may face.
“As strong advocates for supporting carers, Radford Care Group are delighted to be able offer our specialised programme for carers of those with dementia.” said Bev Pearson, Dementia Programme Lead at Radford Care Group.
“Working with Right at Home and the Forget Me Notts programme will help us reach out to carers who are often left to cope alone, this in turn will improve their well-being as well as that of their loved ones.”
