Former England all-rounder Laura Marsh has been added to The Blaze’s coaching staff, as Spin Bowling Lead.
Marsh, predominantly an off-spin bowler during her playing career, announced her international retirement in 2019 having made 179 all-format appearances for her country, and finished her playing career as the most successful spinner in English women's cricket with 217 wickets.
She was also the leading wicket-taker in England’s 2009 ICC Women’s World Cup success, winning the competition again in 2017, and the World Twenty20 in 2009.
Following her domestic retirement in 2020, Marsh joined London and the East region Sunrisers as Assistant Coach.
In 2022, she took over from Trevor Griffin as Interim Head Coach of the side, before making the switch to the East Midlands ahead of the 2023 season.
She has been named as part of Chris Guest’s coaching team for England in the inaugural Women's Under-19 World Cup in January 2023 in South Africa.
“We are delighted to have a coach of Laura’s repute with us, she leads by example through her experience and what she has achieved in the game,” The Blaze’s Regional Director of Cricket, James Cutt, said.
“But she is also an astute tactician and technician, who can pass an immense amount of knowledge onto our young squad, particularly our spinners, who are already reaping the rewards of the work they are doing with her at Trent Bridge.
“She has the ability and knowhow to work with players on a one-to-one basis, and really enhance their skills, but also contribute to wider discussions around the group, providing valuable support to Chris and the whole backroom team.”
