Dane Paterson’s valiant spell was in vain as Marnus Labuschagne’s unbeaten half-century guided Glamorgan to a seven-wicket victory on the final day of their LV= County Championship fixture at Trent Bridge.

South African seamer Paterson bowled 13 overs in a tireless effort, returning a wicket and conceding just 29 runs, but Australian batter Labuschagne’s 50 not out saw the Welsh outfit chase down their target of 166.

That target had been set after Notts were dismissed for 242 early on the final morning, with the injured Joey Evison fighting through to add 37 to the total while batting with Haseeb Hameed as a runner.

However, he became the final man to fall a little under 45 minutes into the morning session, and although Paterson, James Pattinson, and Liam Patterson-White all picked up a scalp each, Glamorgan secured victory midway through the afternoon.

Earlier, Notts began the final day with hopes that Easter Sunday could bring about a resurrection in their fortunes, but after Brett Hutton was bowled for 17 and Evison was caught behind, their fourth-innings task became ever tougher.

Openers David Lloyd and Andrew Salter looked to seize the initiative as they began their chase, but the introduction of Patterson-White brought about Notts’ first chance to put a spanner in the works as Salter was pinned lbw for 16.

Paterson then struck with the final ball before lunch as Lloyd shouldered arms to one that nipped back into his stumps for 23, but even at 52 for two, the momentum was still with the visitors.

Sam Northeast also chipped in with 23 in a third-wicket partnership of 40 before he top-edged Pattinson to Paterson behind square, after which it fell to Labuschagne and Kiran Carlson to guide the visitors home.

They did so with an unbroken stand of 74, and after Labuschagne recorded his fifty with a single off compatriot Pattinson, that teed up Carlson to strike six and confirm the Green and Golds’ first home Championship defeat in exactly 52 weeks.
