Luke Wood is enjoying the thick and fast nature of The Hundred to date as the Trent Rockets look to continue their unbeaten start to the tournament versus Birmingham Phoenix.
Wood, who took the first wicket of The Hundred for the side, contributed with two fine catches in front of a packed Lord’s crowd on Sunday.
Now, all eyes turn to the first local derby fixture versus the Phoenix, with Wood hopeful the team can maintain their winning start.
“Obviously there’s a bit more on it because we’re rivals but at the same time it’s just another game really,” said Wood.
“We’ve done well so far and we want to take that winning momentum forward.
“If we keep playing the way we’re playing then we should keep turning over sides.”
The Rockets raced home in their first fixture versus Southern Brave, before enduring two nervy finishes versus Northern Superchargers and London Spirit.
Despite the last couple of games going down to the wire, Wood says he always thought they’d get over the line due to the strength in depth.
“Having played at Trent Bridge for quite a long time and knowing that defending on the ground is really tough… I don’t think that it was too bad before Carts (Matt Carter) hit that six,” said Wood.
“We all know that Goob (Matt Carter) can hit a long ball… and we bat all the way down.
“I don’t think we could have asked for a better bunch of lads really.
“We’ve come together as a team really quickly and bonded really well. Lots of different people keep putting their hands up at different times which is brilliant for the competition going forward.”
